What is? The Best Wireless Earbuds
2020 The Year of the Earbud!
Who will be crowned best wireless earbuds 2020?
Ever since Apple dropped the bombshell that they were getting rid of the headphone jack on their mobile devices, manufacturers have been entering the race to make the best wireless Earbuds. Although initially the decision to drop the headphone port was met with some scepticism, it would appear as though popularity has shot through the roof. 2020 is the year of the wireless headphone, regardless of what the device or the activity, there is a wireless headphone for you. Below we have reviewed the best Wireless Earbuds on the market for 2020.
BOSE Soundsport Free Wireless Headphones
Price Range – £150 – £179.95
Exactly what you would expect from a BOSE product- they look fantastic. The look and feel of this product is top quality and would suit in any environment, whether working out at the gym or jogging home from work. A waterproof mesh in the open ports will keep these dry so you won’t have to worry about sweat or rain again.
The BOSE earbuds boast a 5 hour battery life which will last even the longest workout. The case is also a great piece of kit and will not only keep the earbuds protected, it is also able to provide 2 full charges – that’s another 10 hours of battery life!
This is a BOSE product and this is what they do. This is the Ferarri of the earbud world. The volume optimised EQ gives sound quality that is amazing and you will be able to immerse yourself in the sound and when you close your eyes, you could be right there at the gig.
Designed specifically for sport, this earbud will fit any size or shape ear with comfort. The engineered nozzle will give stability by spreading contact evenly around the inside of the ear whilst the fin conforms naturally to the shape of the upper ear.
These BOSE earbuds are the peak of wireless listening on the move. With the app you can track each earbud in case you misplace or lose them. The sound quality is amazing and gives you a fully immersive experience. The price is a little high but that seems to be the industry standard for quality so I think they are worth every penny.
Pro’s – Sound quality, Fit
Con’s – What is lost in battery life is more than made up with sound quality
Powerbeats Pro by Dr Dre
Price – £219
Comparing these to the BOSE I do not think they are as pleasing on the eye but I think many of you out there will like them. They are neat and small and I like the brand placement on the ear.
The Beats earbuds blows the BOSE out of the water when it comes to battery life offering up to 9 hours on a single charge. The case is also packed full of juice and can give up to another 24 hours of continuous play. The 5 minute fast fuel can also give you an amazing 1.5 hours of play!
The sound quality is very impressive with these buds and independent volume controls with sensors that will stop the playback when removed from the ear are great functions.
The Beats earbuds have the hook that wraps around the ear and comes with 4 sizes of ear tips. This should cover everyone’s ear shape and I found them very comfortable. Even when I was running the fit meant that they remained stable and did not need adjusting.
The Powerbeats pro are a major player in this category and rightly so. The Beats earbuds will fit well and will remain comfortable no matter how hard you are pushing yourself. The sound quality is very good although I do not think that these warrant their extremely high price.
Pro’s – Battery life is fantastic, they fit very well
Con’s – Extremely high price
Price Range – £55.99 – £56
The design of the skullcandy earbud is very basic indeed and look more like a miniature Bluetooth headsets.
The skullcandy offers up to 4 hours of battery life and the case can give another 12 hours which isn’t too bad at this end of the market.
The sound quality is reasonable and what you would expect from more affordable options such as this. These are fine for everyday use and podcasts and e-books but if you’re a metallica fan or like a lot of base, these are not for you.
The fit is okay with a few eartips to choose from making them comfortable. There is no additional protection to aid stability so these are probably not the best if you are hitting the road or overly active.
The skullcandy earbuds are a good option if you are on a limited budget and these are great for listening to e-books and podcasts but if you are looking for something with great sound quality even at volume, these are not the ones and they are not the best wireless earbuds of 2020.
Pro’s – Price, 12 hours charge from the battery case
Con’s – Sound quality degrades the louder you go, not as stable as higher end options
Price – £119.99
The Echobuds earbuds are okay. They are reasonably small and discreet and they feel well made. They are sweat and rain resistant and offer Alexa on the go meaning you can leave your phone in your pocket.
The battery will give 5 hours playback on a single charge with the case giving a further 3 charges whilst on the move so you should not run out of juice when you need it the most.
The sound quality is okay and Echobuds earbuds use Bose noise cancelling technology to ensure that the listening experience is not interrupted by the outside world.
The buds come with 3 different size eartips and 3 sizes of wingtips to ensure a good fit. These are comfortable and stable and offer what you need regardless of your activity
These buds are very similar to the BOSE but on a cheaper scale. The sound quality is very good for a bud in this price range. I would recommend.
Pro’s – Great sound quality for mid-range buds, Alexa voice control
Con’s – Not the best looking
Price – £125
The latest iteration of the airpod is very much the same as the first that we saw. These buds are very basic and not that attractive to look at. The earbuds are more of a status symbol now and synonymous with up to date apple technology. What is good is that these earbuds can be controlled by siri meaning your phone stays safe and tucked away.
The airpod gives 5 hours of playback on a single charge and the case will give you a further 3 charges. The best thing about this product is that it will give you up to 3 hours from a 15 minute charge.
The sound of these buds cannot live with the Sound quality of the more experienced sound experts such as Bose although the sound is still okay for a mid-range offering.
The buds come with 3 different size eartips to fit any ear size. The stability is not great with these and although they may make you feel good wearing them, you may find yourself picking them up of the floor during a heavy workout.
No review is complete without the original earpod but although apple forced the market these buds are quite a way behind the leaders in this category. If you are looking to show off and have the distinctive brand on your ear, these are fine but if you want real quality sound, look elsewhere.
Pro’s – Distinctive apple earpod,
Con’s – Pretty standard, poor stability
Samsung Galaxy buds
Price – £117
These Samsung earbuds are pretty strong and feel well-made. The design is similar to some of the others in this range and they do not protrude too far from the ear.
Up to 6 hours playback with the galaxy buds and when you need it, Galaxy buds can connect wireless power-share compatible galaxy devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G
Sound quality is good from the Samsung although there isn’t as much Bass as what I would have liked.
The fit of these buds is great. The design means that they mould perfectly to the ear and give you a great listening experience. These can be worn anywhere any time.
These buds are a winner in the mid-range category. The fit is quality and the wireless charge function with other Galaxy devices is a great addition. Could these be the best wireless earbuds for you?
Pro’s – price, quality of fit
Con’s – Not enough bass
Huawei Freebuds 3
Price – £166.99
Like Apple, not much though has gone into what these look like. These just look like old school wired headphones without wires.
The battery on the Huawei offers up to 2.5 hours of voice calls or 4 hours of playback. Like many others in this range, the case will also give another 3 charges.
The sound quality from these buds does not reflect the high price unfortunately. These buds are okay and probably sound a little better than the Apple pods but these do not compare with other buds at the higher end such as the powerbeats or the BOSE
Pretty standard earbuds but that come with interchangeable tips. These are very much similar to apple in that they lack stability although they will be perfect for the daily train commute whilst listening to your favourite books.
These are hugely overpriced and I would not recommend. The usage that you will get from these will be limited if you are into sports or being active. These are not the best wireless earbuds, avoid at this price.
Pro’s – Reasonable battery life
Con’s – massive price tag for what you get
Price – £49.99
Small stylish and discreet. Everything you would want from a wireless headphone
Up to 4 hours playtime on a single charge and a case that gives you 4 additional charges. This is a great effort from Encafire.
For the price range, the sound quality is superb. The sound quality definitely competes with the mid-range earbuds and for the price this is unbeatable.
Again, this is a win from the Encafire. The fit of these is fantastic and they can take a beating. These can be worn during the heaviest of workouts or they are comfortable enough to wear on your busride to work.
For the price, this is a big win. You would not believe the quality of these buds for under £50. These are the best wireless earbuds 2020 on a budget.
Pro’s – Price, Fit, Sound
Con’s – None
As you can see, there is a bud for everyone. At the higher end, there is no clear winner as the BOSE and Powerbeats are both excellent and it will depend on your own personal choice. I prefer the BOSE but these may feel a little large for some people. I think we have learned that Huawei and Apple should stick to mobile technology and let the sound experts do their work. In the middle, Samsung’s effort is decent but for me the Encafire has it all at a more respectable budget. For me though, the best wireless earbuds 2020 is the BOSE soundsport.
